The Relationship Corner: Lovers AND Friends????

Relationships these days have been getting examined more and more each day. The technicalities blow minds, but we continue to learn more about them. With that said, it brings us to our new topic at hand: is your significant other your best friend?

The word friend is already used loosely these days. But the fact of the matter is, you just can't call anybody a friend, let alone a best friend. They usually say that you end up marrying your best friend. I, for one, disagree with that as well as that term. Should you really call your significant other your best friend? What does that even say about your circle of best friends?

When you enter in a relationship with somebody, sure you may have gained a friend in some sense, but I have such an issue with those that jump the gun and refer to their lovers as best friend, especially when their relationship is barely 6 months old. Would you tell your soon to be husband or wife how many sexual partners you've had? I don't think so and if you do, let's hope it doesn't mess up your relationship. Would you tell your partner how you feel about their parents? 9 times out of 10 you won't, but you'll vent to your best friend about it. All I'm saying is that there is a clear line of separation that some people seem to be avoiding.

The term "I'm marrying my best friend" is understandable but arguable. They are, God willing, your partner for life but best friend seems a little far fetched I think.

What about you guys? Do you agree or disagree?
